Low Sodium Cranberry Sauce

Updated: Nov 24, 2022

Ok, so cranberry sauce isn't really a high sodium food. I just really love this recipe.

This can be made in advance and put out just before serving. Its delicious with turkey, ham, mashed potatoes, rolls, lefse... its just good.

Around 10mg sodium for the whole recipe.

Happy Thanksgiving!

  • 1 12oz package of cranberries (frozen ok)

  • 1 cup sugar

  • 3/4 cup water

  • Zest and juice of 1 orange

  • 2 cinnamon sticks

  • 2-3 bay leaves

Directions

  1. Bring water, orange juice, and sugar to boil in a saucepan set over high heat. Stir to dissolve sugar. Add cranberries, orange zest, cinnamon, and bay leaves and bring back to a boil.

  2. Reduce heat and simmer about 5 minutes, until most of the berries have popped and the sauce starts to thicken.

  3. Pour sauce into a medium bowl and let cool. Remove bay leaves and cinnamon. Cover and refrigerate up to 7days.
